St. Eulogius — Patriarch of Alexandria September 13

This saint was a brilliant scholar, an authority in literature and Holy Scripture. Today is also the feast of the Jesuit Martyrs, canonized in 1930.

Blessed is the man who is found without blemish and that hath not gone after gold, nor put his trust in money nor in treasures. — Epistle, Ecclesiasticus 31

The Imitation of Christ
If thou wilt derive profit, read with humility, with simplicity, and with faith; and never wish to have the name of learning.
A brilliant student and learned man in literature and in Holy Scripture, Eulogius turned every bit of his talent to God’s service.
Be careful not to complain about anything today. Build up a little philosophy like this: If the weather seems warm, imagine how dreadful it would be if you lived in the torrid zone; if you have a toothache, how much worse, if you had an earache besides.
Lord, give me patience even at this time. — Following of Christ.
