St. James — Apostle July 25

St. James was one of the three familiar companions of our Lord. He was one of the three who witnessed the Transfiguration, the raising of the daughter of Jairus, and the Agony in the Garden. He was one of the eleven Apostles who died martyrs’ deaths.

Their sound hath gone forth into all the earth; and their words unto the ends of the world. — Offertory

The Imitation of Christ
Without labor there is no coming to rest, nor without fighting do we arrive at victory.
St. James was the “Son of Thunder.” It was he who demanded fire from heaven to consume the inhospitible Samaritans. Impetuous, outspoken, and fearless, he loved the Lord with a consuming love.
Everybody hates a hypocrite. Don’t say what you don’t mean. This evening, check over the things you have said today and see how many of them have been the truth and nothing but the truth.
Always speak the truth.
