St. Philip Benizi — Confessor August 23

Obedient to his father’s wish, St. Philip studied and practiced medicine. But our Lady bade him enter her Order of Servites. He offered himself as a lay brother but his ability was soon recognized, he was ordained a priest, became master of novices and general of his order. By flight only, did he escape being elevated to the papal throne.

The Imitation of Christ
Put thyself always in the lowest place and the highest shall be given thee.
The more St. Philip tried to flee from honors the more they seemed to pursue him.
Seek the last place today. To do that effectively and meritoriously you must think little of yourself. Our actions are our thoughts put into execution.
And the last shall be first.
