"And grieve not the holy Spirit of God" (Ephesians 4:30)

"Extinguish not the spirit" (1 Thessalonians 5:19)

Every sin we commit grieves the Holy Ghost because it directly opposes the Will of God. Mortal sin not only grieves the Holy Ghost but extinguishes Him by expelling Him from the soul where He dwells by His divine grace.

However, six sins in particular are “sins against the Holy Ghost”.

  1. Presuming on God’s mercy
  2. Despair
  3. Resisting the known truth
  4. Envying another’s spiritual good
  5. Obstinacy in sin
  6. Final Impenitence

We are incapable of doing anything worthy of eternal salvation on our own. A naturally good deed cannot merit a supernatural reward. It is the Holy Ghost who applies to our souls the means of salvation merited by Our Lord Jesus Christ.

We must do also our part. We must use the means that Our Lord gave us to obtain eternal life. We must also cooperate faithfully with Divine Grace. The presumptuous vainly imagine that they will obtain eternal salvation without using the means of grace given by Our Lord and transmitted to us by Holy Mother Church.

The presumptuous neglect prayer; neglect the sacraments; neglect study and sermons; neglect Mass; and neglect the rosary.

Also, they expect to avoid sin without fleeing from dangerous occasions of sin.

Falling into mortal sin they willfully remain in that sad state and multiply sin upon sin.

They console themselves with the false idea that God is too good to allow them to be lost forever and suffer endless misery. They deliberately blind themselves and afflict the Holy Ghost in a new manner by deliberately casting off the means of salvation offered to them.

Sins of the Conciliar Church:

The Conciliar Church deliberately promotes the Sin of Presumption.

  • The Conciliar Church takes from men the means of grace:
    -> Confession is non-existent
-> Holy Communion is not receiving the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Our Lord Jesus Christ
-> The sacraments are essentially gone
  • The Conciliar Church takes the fear of Hell away from men:
-> Bishop Williamson oft quoted a Scottish axiom: A Kirch without a Hell isn’t worth a damn.
  • The Conciliar Church takes the notion of sin away from men.

The Society of St. Pius X is also guilty of the Sin of Presumption. They have seen that every traditional order that compromised and united with Rome has become Conciliar and modernist. The SSPX knows the evils of the Conciliar Church and has condemned them for years. Yet now willingly she desires to submit to the unconverted modernists who control this counterfeit church. They say “yes, others have fallen, yet we will not.” This is the most blatant sin of Presumption.

God loves all men. He gave up His only begotten son for their salvation. “I desire not the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way, and live.” (Ezekiel 33:11). God wants our salvation.

It is a grave sin to distrust God the Holy Ghost whose work is to apply to the soul the graces merited by Our Lord Jesus Christ; to rescue men from the slavery of sin.

Sinners must turn to God with all confidence. The Holy Ghost is all powerful goodness, love and mercy.

This sin is a danger for us today. Often we have no chance to go to confession. We are tempted to think that the means that God has given me are not sufficient. Thus, we need great confidence in the Holy Ghost.

Resisting the Known Truth

The Holy Ghost is the Spirit of Truth.

The Holy Ghost gives infallibility to the Church. The Church cannot err when it dependent on the Holy Ghost demands submission to a teaching on faith or morals.

  • Avoid hearing the Truth: I don’t want to know.
This sin is promoted by the SSPX. The SSPX encourages men to be ignorant and to not investigate its deceits.
  • Refuse to accept the Truth
  • Willfully reject the Truth once having embraced it.

Those who have learned and are convinced that the Catholic Church is the one true Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ and refuse to become Catholics are guilty of this sin.

Catholics who refuse to live as Catholics are guilty of this sin.

These sinners hear the voice of God but prefer the Father of Lies.

The Conciliar Church is guilty of this sin:

This is the chief sin of the bishops and priests.

Sins of the Society of St. Pius X:

The SSPX sees clearly the deceits of the Conciliar Church but prefers the lies to the truth.

  • “You are outside the Church” == A LIE
  • “You must be in the visible Church” == A LIE
-> We must be in the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. == The TRUTH
  • “You must follow the Pope” == A LIE

Envying another’s Spiritual Good

The Holy Ghost bestows blessings on all men.

The Holy Ghost is free to give in whatever measure he chooses.

All receive and abundance of grace, but the Holy Ghost is more liberal with some. All are not equal. Who can question the Holy Ghost? We must rejoice in good wherever it is found. God is permitted to have His favorites. His most favorite is the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Obstinacy in Sin

Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” What more could God have done for thee? Those who deliberately turn back to sin, they remain obstinate in sin. They reject the grace of the Holy Ghost. They prefer sin to virtue; darkness to light.

They reject the entreaties of the Holy Ghost. They would rather wallow in the mire of sin than walk in the path of virtue.

Thus, they despise the grace of God. They outrage the Holy Ghost.

Final Impenitence

This sin flows from obstinacy in sin. They are obstinate to the end. These sinners defy God with death staring them in the face. They condemn themselves.
